Criminals think criminally don’t they?!?
I was studying Matthew 27 and around the 62nd verse it goes into how after the death and burial of Jesus the leading priests and Pharisees went to the governor Pilate asking him to send guards to protect the tomb because they believed Jesus’s disciples were going to steal his body in order to prove the point that he resurrected from the dead.
As I read, I wondered, how did they even come up with that scenario?!
How did they muster up the idea that people would steal a dead body? The thought would never cross my mind.
That’s when the Holy Spirit hit me. It wouldn’t cross MY mind because I don’t have that type of heart. I wouldn’t even consider something like that because it’s not what I do.
You see, the leading priests and Pharisees were living criminal lifestyles behind closed doors. They knew what could happen because it’s something they probably would’ve done to maintain wealth and status.
I mean, they did falsely accuse an innocent man – cough, cough.
Jesus knew their hearts. That’s why in earlier chapters, Jesus exposed their actions and instructed people to listen to and obey their teachings, but told them not to follow their actions. (Matthew 23 – gets them all the way together honey)
So what’s your heart looking like? Would you have thought of sending guards to the tomb to ensure no funny business was gonna happen? Reflect on your thoughts and actions by journaling today.
